Imagine people shooting bullets at you, and the only way you can dodge these bullets is by standing still. Time is frozen as long you remain that way. With every step, another second will pass and the bullets will inch closer to you. That’s the premise behind SuperHot, created by Piotr Iwanicki and Superhot Team as part of the 2013 7 Day FPS ChallengeDeveloped for the 3-D Oculus Rift headset, the gameplay encourages you to maneuver your way through a streaks of moving gunfire.

An FPS game at heart, Superhot plays around with the time effect so well, that it actually leads to a turn based play-style. While moving through the game’s levels you will find yourself in a routine of pausing & un-pausing the game just to play around with the bullet time. You stand still to line up your next shot while examining the trajectory of the enemy’s bullets, fire and then move accordingly to dodge the bullets. Or if you are feeling dare-devilish, you can just go in with your gun blazing and check if patience really is a virtue.

After killing an enemy, more often than not I found myself standing still and moving inch by inch just to see the enemy’s head explode in slow motion and watch the blood spurt out to my pace while the body flew backwards. It may sound macabre but hey, it felt like I was Max Payne playing around in The Matrix! Nothing can beat that feeling. Compared to any game, Superhot is an awesome concept in its own right.

If you need more convincing you can play the trail version of the game at Superhot’s website and see for yourself. The Superhot Team has stated that the full game is expected to be as long as portal. It might look very simple right now, but the team has planned to make the game more challenging by adding more weapons, explosives & subsequent explosions that can harm the player, and enemies that can dodge the player’s bullets.
