Well, the brand Marimekko has taken these words quite seriously these days. From being the master in housewares now the brand takes a bold step and has entered the glamorous Fashion arena maybe (with what can be called) as a Bang!

The CEO and 16% share holder Mika Ihamuotila, has a lot to say about the new Fashion styling range Marimekko has to offer to its customers. He seems to be pretty excited about the whole new fashion engagement of the brand. He says to Fast Co. Design, “I’m personally an idealistic person. I don’t think about money first.”

Seems like the CEO is taking this fashion industry rather too seriously now. Their recent collaboration with Banana Republic saw a washed out stock within a week. The representatives of Banana Republic called this wash out as beyond expected.

The prints offered by Marimekko are more into retro kinds but with the latest addition to their team, I suppose the things can now turn. Recently, Ihamuotila has appointed the hot property from H&M fashion – Anna Teurnell. Earlier working with massive mid range Fashion Brand, H&M, Teurnell is now joining Marimekko in July. Damn these people look determined to make a strong mark, ah!

In my opinion the designs offered are superb but proper marketing is a must – don’t let the consumers just fall for a particular print but make them love your brand. Founded by Helsinki in 1953, Marimekko was worn by the people who were liberal. Much was said and expressed by the brand when first launched and now this step by the CEO has just laid a new hope for the brand to take a stand in the fashion world.

Well,I pretty much assume that the brand and its team can change the current scenario and lead the brand from cult design to becoming a fashion rage. But hello, who are we kidding? It’ll take time. Pleased with their collaboration with Banana Republic, Marimekko has taken further bold steps now. Hail you lord! From Housewares to Fashion Divas.
