He created the dent – Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs - 1955-2011

He created the dent, Steve Jobs 1955-2011

Steve Jobs was unarguably a legend and will always remain one. His story, right from him dropping out of college to the way he scaled dizzying heights of success in every field he ventured into, will always inspire everyone. To call him the ‘Father of Modern Day Technology’ would be no exaggeration. His passion, determination, perseverance, stubbornness, belief and courage, made him a visionary, a leader, a game-changer. His dream to change the world has been achieved by many folds. He proved it time and again that nothing is impossible and dreaming big is a way of life. Steve gave the gift of comfort, beauty and connectivity to everyone. And he gave a lot more. Like Former Apple CEO John Sculley rightly said, He didn’t create anything really, but he created everything.”

We, at Pixelonomics, have a compiled a list of 10 things, Jobs gifted to this world.

1)     Apple I  & II

Till a long time, computers were used as tools meant used for professional purposes but with the launch of Apple I & II, the definition of ‘Personal Computers’ was changed forever. And it has been changing ever since.

2)     Macintosh

It was the first commercially successful personal computer to feature a mouse and a graphical user interface. iMac was the original which were followed by Mac mini desktop, Mac Pro, the MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops.

3)     Design

Although he wasn’t a designer by ‘qualification’ but he could be, undoubtedly, called one due to the innate flair he possessed when it came to design. He had a keen eye on aesthetic details of every product, including the insides of the machines. It might be safe to say that he was literally obsessed with the designing aspect when it came to the products. His detail to design left everyone dumbfounded.

In his words, “Most people make the mistake of thinking design is what it looks like. People think it’s this veneer — that the designers are handed this box and told, ‘Make it look good!’ That’s not what we think design is. It’s not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

4)      Music – iPod and iTunes Revolution

The computer wizard took the world by storm when he decided to venture into the unexplored territories of Apple, i.e, Music. And thus gave the gift of iPod and iTunes. When he assured that everyone could carry their entire music collection in their pockets, iPod became THE thing to possess. With iTunes, the largest online music retailer, downloading music became a lot easier. And it forever changed the way the world listened to music.

5)     iPhone

When the world was still awestruck with iPod, he decided to take things a step further when he launched iPhone. Steve wanted to make something that was an equivalent of putting a computer, an iPod and a phone in a pocket and iPhone was conceived. Soon it was everyone’s prized possession.

6)     iPad

Steve’s wish- “Don’t just touch your computer, feel it. Let the graphics and icons simplify life’s complexities. Let your fingers flow over the glass instead of peck at it. Speak to it. Use your body and motion to sway your computer until it moves you. Until you are one.” The Result? The glass and aluminium beauty, the iPad, the new accessory in the market.

7)     Mac OS

He swore by ‘simple, user-friendly and effective product’ theory and that’s why Mac OS came into the picture. Mac OS is notorious for stability and accessibility. Hence the purpose was achieved and another there was feather is his cap.

Steve Jobs Rainbow over Pixar

Moments after news broke about Steve Jobs' death, a rainbow popped out of the Pixar campus

8)     Animation – Pixar

When it came to Hollywood, Steve again had the Midas Touch. Pixar began as a ‘hobby’ for Steve which eventually paved way for a revolution in the Hollywood world. The visionary brought a digital transmission to animation and the world experienced a whole new way of watching animated movies. Pixar was an artistic powerhouse, which produced some ingenious movies like Toy Story, Bug’s Life, Up, Finding Nemo, etc.

9)     Apple Inc.

Steve gave a lot to the world and before he departed, he made sure he left behind a legacy, i.e., Apple Inc. It stays with a promise to keep the consumers happy, excited and amazed

10)  iNSPIRATION and Courage to dream and fulfill them

Last but definitely not the least, he gave the people, the gift of believing in self, taught how to dream big and inspired everyone to live their dreams and achieve whatever they want. He taught everyone to ‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’.

Wish there was a bigger way to thank someone who gave us all he could and being such an exemplary man. Till then, have to suffice with just a ‘BIG THANK YOU STEVE’ and celebrate him.

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”

–Steve Jobs

Nicely written. i dint know the pixar bit so there was some learning too. He was an exemplary businessman who found cooler ways to pull money out of millions of pockets and build a highly profitable company.  An example to so many upcoming entrepreneurs. Now we just hope Apple can sustain its growth. the entrepreneur is dead, may the enterprise live n thrive! RIP.Mr.Jobs.
